What is SEO?

SEO stands for Search Engine Optimisation, and is the mysterious phrase coined by techies to describe the fine art of balance in trying to maximise the chance that your website will appear in front of your target audience when they are using a search engine to find a product or service which your business offers.

When creating and launching a website you need to consider how people are going to find it. As your brand begins to grow and develop traction people may well Google your brand name, find your website, and click through. Until then, they’ll likely Google (other search engines available such as Bing!), a phrase containing information about the type of business/product/service they are looking for. And you want to ensure your website appears at the top of the first page as often as possible.

For example, someone may search for ‘Jayne Kennedy Marketing’ as they’ve heard about the fantastic service I offer businesses of all shapes, sizes and budgets (no apologies for the blatant plug here!)

Their search will find my website because:

  • My website address (domain) is jaynekennedymarketing.co.uk

  • all my pages contain that phrase

  • the meta data and SEO descriptions sitting behind each web page include Jayne Kennedy Marketing as part of the description

  • the on-page content uses the phrase Jayne Kennedy Marketing in a useful and informative way

  • The images on the page are all tagged with the phrase

  • the bounce rate (time people spend on my site when they get here) is very important, and those historically visiting my site don’t just bounce away, they stay and read what I have to say.

  • I have a social media presence for Jayne Kennedy Marketing - Linked In, Twitter and Facebook

  • I have had articles published which link to my website from other well performing websites

They may well Google ‘Marketing Consultant Wirral’ or ‘Marketing help Liverpool’ and might not find me, as I’m only just starting to optimise my website for these phrases.

SEO is not a dark art, but merely part of the ongoing marketing package offered to businesses by Jayne Kennedy Marketing. In your bespoke package I will be looking to develop ongoing, lead generating marketing strategies. No matter how big or small the business, SEO ensures people can find your website. It’s like indexing a book in a library so it doesn’t get lost!
